David Baird

Information:

David was in the US Army from Aug 4, 1964 to Aug 13, 1968. His assignments included Fort Knox, KY;  Fort Benning, GA;  Bamberg, Germany; Mannheim, Germany;  Cam Ranh Bay,  Viet Nam; Hue, Viet Nam; Phu Bi, Viet Nam;  and Fort Irwin, CA.

David’s specialty was wheel/track mechanic and trust drive/truck master. His decorations included the following Viet Nam Service Metal w/2 Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Ribbon w/device (1960); Republic of Viet Nam Gallantry Cross w/Palm; Good Conduct Medal; Presidential Unit Citation Badge.

David is married, has 3 children, 2 adopted children, and 3 grandchildren. He served as a Firefighter, Paramedic, Fire Engineer, Fire Inspector and Fire Officer for the Hoffman Estates Fire Department from 1970 to 2000; he also worked as a Fire Certification Specialist and Fire Plans Examiner for the Illinois State Fire Marshal for 13 years.

In David’s spiritual life he was born and baptized in 1946 and raised Roman Catholic, became a Lutheran (ELCA) in 1968, found St. Andrews Lutheran (Elgin, IL) WELS in 1993 and became a member.  David was the Congregations President until the merger with Abiding Peace Lutheran (Streamwood, IL).  He has been a council member for Stewardship and is presently a council member for Evangelism and a liaison to  the LMSG.
